Concert: Keeping up Appearances William Byrd—the man, his music & his faith |
| The question is always the same. ‘How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?’ How did Byrd survive as a Catholic in a Protestant country? Using music written for Elizabeth and James alongside movements from the Mass for four voices and the Propers for the Assumption, not only can we gain an insight into Byrd’s own faith and his exquisite musicianship, but perhaps also we can find the answer to the question. |

Concert: Hodie Christus natus est Annual Christmas Concert |
| This year the Cardinall’s place a bright and festive Mass setting by Palestrina at the centre of their Christmas celebration. Also featured is a new work for Epiphany by the talented young composer Matthew Martin as part of his Three Christmas Motets. The evening is brought to a close by the stunning Christmas Magnificat by Hieronymus Praetorius complete with carols – a chance to celebrate Yule and the release of the latest Cardinall’s recording. If any piece sums up the spirit of Christmas it is this setting of the Magnificat. |
