Robert Fayrfax Edition
![]()
It was natural for The Cardinall’s Musick to move to the music of Robert Fayrfax (1464–1521) after our work on Nicholas Ludford. The major court composer of the early years of Henry VIII he was one of the first to develop the art of writing truly memorable melodies combined with a more subtle and sophisticated control of harmony. His true greatness is revealed not only in the five remaining festal masses but also in the massive antiphons Maria plena virtute and Eterne laudis lilium where his understanding of the text is quite remarkable. This complete series, which includes all of Fayrfax’s remaining music also includes the secular songs and instrumental music.
