Concert: Bath Mozartfest

Date: Thursday 17 November 2016, 7.30 pm    Venue: St Mary's Bathwick, Darlington Street, Bath BA2 4EB

The Psalms of David have provided inspiration for countless generations of composers. Sung several times a day during services in the Catholic rite and at the centre of Anglican Mattins and Evensong, they contain all human emotion from pain and loss to rejoicing and exultation. This programme contrasts European composers including Allegri’s famous Miserere (Psalm 51) and other double-choir pieces by Victoria alongside more closely argued pieces by English composers. From the suave Gibbons, to the energetic Weelkes and the ever-inspired William Byrd the music reflects the wide-range of emotions found in the texts.
